Tera's Triumph

Welcome

Tera is a beautiful young woman who was injured by the irresponsible act of another person on Feburary 25, 2005. Tera Clark, who was 21 at the time, was hit head on by a methamphetamine-impaired driver. Tera suffered a traumatic brain injury, C-2 and C-3 spinal fracture collapsed lung, ruptured spleen, fractured left elbow, hip, and knee. We weren’t given much hope by the doctors that Tera would survive, but our faith in God sustained us. The doctors actually called us in with the pastors because they had given up on her because she hadn’t responded for over 18 hours. The doctor came in and said, “I will give Tera a 50/50 chance but her brain injury is so severe that she will probably never be able to function.

Tera spent 3 months in the hospital and we were told by the doctors that we should consider putting her in a nursing home. I refused and took it upon myself to rehabilitate my daughter. Tera had to learn everything in life all over again. She didn’t talk for 3 months and was fed by a feeding tube for 6 months.

Tera had 26 surgeries to repair her broken body with several more for the future. Tera has had her left hip and left elbow replaced. Tera took her first steps in 2 years on March 7, 2007 after her left knee was replaced. Her recovery is slow but Tera always remains positive and gives God all the glory. Tera’s medical bills at this time are well over $1.5 million and steadily rising. Medicaid has covered a large portion due to the fact that the young man who hit her had only $25,000 in insurance coverage.

I have taken Tera’s care on as my 24/7 job to see that she gets to all the scheduled therapy and doctor’s appointments. Tera spends five days a week in therapy to help improve her speech, memory, and mobility.

Tera’s #1 goal in life is to share her story about what God has done in hope to help people make the right decisions about driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We do spend a lot of time speaking to students at schools, churches, and colleges. We emphasize the choices that they make today will affect the rest of their life. We pray that you will help share out story with the nation and that we will make an impact on someone’s life. By God’s grace Tera has overcome every obstacle and continues to recover daily. She is walking with assistance and says that she will walk on her own by Christmas; actually she says she is going to dance by Christmas. A young woman who was once left with little hope for life is now regaining her life and not taking one minute for granted.
